Hiatus!

  

  Aloha!  And yes it's time for a very long hiatus!   Over the past year I have been diligent and posting and working in the art studio almost daily along with working two other jobs, servicing the wholesale accounts and well I'm pooped and the little cat needs some attention too.  So I am officially taking a break from posting on the blog and I am pretty sure the break will last at least six months so check back next March. The website, www.sophiemuseum.com, will have most of the new works loaded in galleries and paypal working by October 15. New cats will not be loaded until January or a little later (see I have been so busy I didn't even keep up with the website).  Unfortunately, the links below will not work.  They were developed though the DPW website, where I have/had a gallery and have taken a hiatus from posting there too so they block your links too.  They will link you to their site but have gotten rid of the option to purchase the piece so please feel free to email me about anything & have the best six months ever! sophie@sophiemuseum.com

Yes I am still painting - don't be ridiculous why do you think I am stopping the posts.  I am very busy in the studio, working with charities on their auctions, helping the needy and well yes working too!

  Here's one of my little geckos that I captured on film while I was in Hawaii during the O'Hana Art Exhibit last year.  You don't really think I could get him to pose that long for me do you?  I have to keep the rain forested area a secret where I found this little guy to protect his privacy - but just think you can look at him forever if you buy him!

  The Mink Protea is absolutely one of my favorite flowers.  The petals feel just like velvet and the little fuzzy tops remind me a bit like fur.  Love it!  & Happy beginning to a new week & fall!

Gecko Playing Circus!

  Isn't he cool!  I loved this little lizard playing around on the leafs.  It really is amazing to watch them in their natural habitat.  This little guy (or perhaps it's a girl especially since so much acrobatics are involved!) was in the botanical garden in downtown Honolulu.  Pretty amazing that they kept a park so close to the business sector!  There's even loads of trees in it!

  Here's another cutie from the Lulu Aloha series.  I just love these red heliconias.  They are all over the tropical rain gardens of Honolulu but you sort of have to sneak in close to get the good photos!

King Heliconia

  I decided to start posting the pieces from the "Lulu Aloha" series I have been working on.  (haven't got a handle on how to put the flat accent over the 2 u's in Lulu but they should be there).  It means Sew the seeds of Love in Hawaiian.  I'm painting these little cuties with my friends back there in mind and all the love they show me when I visit and the generous time they give to me.  Mmwa!  Love ya!  This Heliconia was a close up that I cropped and looks like a bird wearing a crown to me - hence the King title.

  Well here's a great little piece I did of a close up of the ship sailing into the Caribbean sunset.  I love the way the sun reflects different colors and really played that up in this piece which was done in the impressionist style.

A Good Read

  Well the poetry reading went great yesterday at The Bookstore in Lenox.  Both Dennis and Doria read magnificently.  It was wonderful to hear them breathe life into the written poems of R.A. Martelle that are all based on artwork done by me.  Kudos to everyone that came for a listen.  It was a great group in a great shop and we've been asked to do it again so I will keep you all posted as to the next time we can all manage it.  Happy Monday!

Mini Panther, aka Booboo Kitty from Texas

  Here he is Booboo Kitty from Texas looking just like a mini panther.  I captured his image one morning last November at Sue's "Bide a While" retreat center in Dickenson, Texas.  It was just a beautiful morning with the sun hitting just right on the cat while he was startled by something and drawn away from his moment of drinking fresh morning dew water from the fountain. Although this piece is sold prints are available for $50, framed.

  I just loved these little cute shoes I found in the costume shop.  They sort of look like they belong on the Spanish Matador, or an Emperor / Empress.  The only clue as to their origin is the label "Made in Spain".

  So these little cuties also came from the Shakespeare & Company stash of shoes.  I just loved them and thought they would be great to paint.  I do try to pick out more of the unusual ones from that closet.  A little more interesting and then try to imagine what character would be wearing them.  I couldn't quite figure out what show these could be in, but there they were ready to be admired and set on canvas for all eternity.  Who knows, maybe you have this same pair in your closet and want them on the walls too!  Or maybe these are the perfect color for a room you have.....
